In an increasingly competitive higher education landscape, universities must not only adapt but also innovate their strategic approaches to stay relevant and impactful. Taking a position that AI presents a strategic discontinuity in the progress of technology, this talk explores the role of artificial intelligence (AI) as a catalyst for strategic innovation, empowering universities to discover new avenues for growth and differentiation.
By harnessing AI’s capabilities, universities can move beyond traditional strategy development methods and tap into its potential to generate novel strategic directions. With its ability to tap vast datasets to uncover emerging trends, untapped student markets, and unique program opportunities, AI can provide insights that human analysis might overlook. This enables universities to redefine their competitive strategies and create distinctive offerings that meet the evolving needs of students and the workforce.
Extensive experience as a strategy consultant for numerous universities throughout ANZ, as well as a background as a university lecturer has given me firsthand insight into the academic landscape and the critical importance of aligning technology with educational goals. Together, these experiences inform my perspective on how AI can be effectively leveraged to drive strategic innovation.
