Student Advocacy as Reform @ Murdoch

May 26 2025, 11:40 - 12:10 (AWST)

Sir Walter Murdoch strove to establish an inclusive tertiary education experience. Today, that pursuit continues on to deliver equality through equity. This is not just about enabling access to technology, but to technology aimed at meeting the needs of people with different starting points. In two parts, this talk will cover what I am doing as part of the Students as Change Program (SCA), and then why it is important in this forum. The briefing will explain the program and the aims of my project. So, as an advocate for the uptake and advancement of skills, I will explain how the implementation of technology is being put together in a high-level overview of services for staff, students, and researchers. The second part of my talk is entitled Taking the Teaching out of Education. I will stress how AI can help develop self-teaching skills, and how flipped delivery in conjunction with generative AI, can save time spent preparing quality materials. Ultimately, my talk will consider and present a solution to the key concern AI possess when trying to assess students and the reform this will require.
